The originally planned title had been The Road to Freedom: A History of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. This was changed shortly before publication, but some of the publicity for the book has used the old title rather than the new one.

"La piste Ho Chi Minh." Transcript, television documentary aired [an otherwise unreliable source says on France-2] February 16, 1983. The text and another copy have been placed on-line in the Virtual Vietnam Archive of the Vietnam Project, at Texas Tech University. Use of both copies, in combination, is recommended, since one of them was scanned cutting off the left edges of some of the pages, and the other was scanned cutting off the right edges of all the pages.
